Karen Hansen is a social entrepreneur with a passion for people empowerment, art and design.
Her preferred methods are multi-media Assemblage Sculpture, Structured Millinery and HeadWear, Fine Art Necklaces, Creative Body Art and artistic expression through interactive participatory design and Experiential Events. High end alternative genres are a passion for Karen, as is the natural world and the synthesis with our human bodies.
She has studied Western Herbalism and Rongoa Maori, Spiritual Sciences and Life Coaching practices. These interests inform her works which all host a deep visual narrative. Her design style dances the division of darkness and light with grace and poise. Karen currently lives in Rotorua, New Zealand with her three children and art studio. She is in the process of completing her Bachelor of Creative Technologies after years of self-taught practice, and developing work toward a thesis on the influence of Visible Sound Geometry on Nature, Culture and Human Design.
Karen Hansen's new work for No Shame No Silence Exhibition will explore her personal experiences through childhood with the New Zealand Police in the 1980s and the emotional trauma attached to their treatment of her as a 5 year old.
Only full overhead sun diminishes your shadow.
But that shadow has been serving you.
What hurts you, blesses you.
Darkness is your candle.
Your boundaries are your quest.
I could explain this, but it will break the glass cover on your heart, and there's no fixing that.
You must have shadow and light source both.
