Marisa Thompson is a local artist who grew up in Shannon and now lives in Palmerston North.
Art has been a huge part of her life, from childhood into adulthood and she continues to draw using the same graphite pencils on paper she grew up with. At 17 she attended Massey University in Wellington and completed first year of a fine arts degree but has largely been self-taught in both drawing and painting. This exhibition is the first she has participated in; she feels privileged and challenged to be a part of something that raises awareness about family abuse and the flaws in our systems when helping those who have been through family violence or abuse. It is a very personal subject which she feels strongly about and wishes to up lift and encourage those who have been through abuse to speak out in any way that empowers them.
